Instant Pot Duo 60

Instant Pot Duo 60 is one of the best pressure cookers available in the market today. This third-generation electric pressure cooker comes with 3rd generation technology and a lot of advanced programs which give it an edge over many other cooker brands and models. As it has a lot of features, its high price does not usually affect the majority of the users. Let’s have a quick look at the pros and cons of this model:

Pros of Instant Pot Duo:

  • Instant Pot Duo consists of several additional features which differentiate it from other electric cookers including Instant Pot Lux 60.
  • It also consists of a few extra safety features which are not present in other models like Lux 60.
  • Instapot Duo 60 has 7-in-1 functions, which means it possesses one additional cooking option as compared to Instapot Lux.
  • It has a user-friendly control panel which can be operated without much confusion.

Cons of Instant Pot Duo:

  • Due to its additional features, it comes with a high price. Therefore, its price may be an issue for users who are tight on budget. In fact, most of the users view Instant Pot Duo 60 as one of the most premium and expensive kitchen appliances.

Instant Pot Lux 60

Instant Pot Lux has fewer features as compared to Instapot Duo. However, as it’s an affordable option, it suits most of the people. Lux 60 has 6-in-1 functions, which means one option (i.e. pressure cooking) less as compared to Duo 60. Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of this model:

Pros of Instant Pot Lux:

  • This model is especially made for people who are low on budget. Lux 60 is one of the most reasonably priced electric cookers available in the market today.
  • Instant Pot Lux 60 is the best electric pressure cooker in this price range. It’s because no other model in this price comes with as many features as Lux 60.
  • It has all the important features that you’d expect from an electric pressure cooker.

Cons of Instant Pot Lux:

  • The amazing features available in instant pot Duo 60 are not found in this electric pressure cooker.
  • Instapot Lux 60 has an old-fashioned design due to which its sale is relatively low.
  • It comes with less cooking options due to which most of the users end up buying either Duo 60 or another better instant pot.
  • It cannot be kept in a small kitchen because of its big size.

Instant Pot LUX vs DUO Functions and Features:

One major difference between Instapot Duo 60 and Instapot Lux 60 is that Duo is a 7-in-1 cooker (Slow cooker, Pressure Cooker, Rice Cooker, Sauté Machine, Steamer, Warmer, and Yogurt Maker), and it has fourteen cooking programs, whereas Lux is a 6-in-1 cooker (Slow Cooker, Pressure Cooker, Rice Cooker, Warmer, Steamer, and Sauté Machine), and has twelve cooking programs. Duo 60 also has pressure setting options (high and low), while Lux 60 only has high pressure setting.

Both the instant pots, however, have a third-generation microprocessor that monitors temperature and pressure, and makes adjustments according to the amount of food you put in the cooker.
Here are the cooking programs you will get with Instant Pot Duo 60:

  • Meat & Stew
  • Soup & Broth
  • Bean & Chili
  • Sauté & Searing
  • Pressure Cook
  • Slow Cook
  • Poultry
  • Rice
  • Steam
  • Multigrain
  • Porridge
  • Pasteurize
  • Yogurt
  • Keep Warm

Note here that the 6-quart and 8-quart versions of Duo 60 have full functionality, whereas the Duo Mini is a somewhat condensed version. There are few programs that are not present in the Duo Mini, such as Poultry, Multigrain, and Pasteurize.

Here are the cooking programs you will get with Instant Pot Lux 60:

  • Meat & Stew
  • Soup & Broth
  • Sauté & Searing
  • Slow Cook
  • Egg
  • Cake
  • Poultry
  • Rice
  • Steam
  • Multigrain
  • Porridge
  • Keep Warm

Just like Instapot Duo Mini, the Mini version of Instant Pot Lux also doesn’t include some of the functions that you get with 6-quart and 8-quart versions. Lux Mini doesn’t have a multigrain and cake function. However, you can use other buttons to perform these functions.

Performance and User-Friendliness:

Both Instant Pot Duo 60 and Instant Pot Lux 60 are very easy to use and perform well. However, there are small differences between the models in terms of user-friendliness. The steam release valve, lid design, and handle of Duo 60 model makes it somewhat easier to use. Although both models have different cooking programs, there is still nothing that we can cook in the Duo 60 but not in Lux 60, or vice versa. Once you’ve understood how to operate the instant pot, you can cook literally any recipe in both Duo and Lux.

Final Verdict

Both of these instant pot models are amazing. So whichever model you buy, you’re really going to enjoy cooking and be amazed by the food options you can make in it.

If we don’t take price of both the instant pot models into account, then Duo is definitely the better model. It’s because it has more functions and also a few additional features that make cooking easier and faster, such as a better steaming rack, more cooking programs, a place where you can set the lid while cooking, and an easier-to-use steam release valve and lid.

However, if we consider the prices of both models, then Duo does have down side that is its higher price. Although this machine will last for years even if used on a daily basis and enhance your cooking experience in so many ways, for some people who are low on budget it might not be the best option.

So for those people, Lux is the right purchase. It has all the features and functions that an Instant Pot should have. It comes with 12 cooking programs which are enough for cooking most of the dishes. Also, even though there are a few cooking programs that are present in Duo but not in Lux, you can still cook those dishes in that instant pot using another program.

So although Duo is the winner in terms of performance and functions, Lux is still a good option for those looking for a reasonably priced instant pot.
