Best Grill Pans Reviews

Le Creuset L2021-265: Overall Best Grill Pan

I really had to think long before picking the best grill pan based on investment and performance. I have to say that there were many grill pans out there that I tried, but this one truly stood out as the best one.

The Le Creuset 10 ¼-inch square grill pan comes in eight colors that will make your day. In addition to its great appearance, it also packs a punch and ensures you get the most delicious grilled food ever. So, what does this product offer? This grill pan is made from cast iron that heats up evenly and quickly. Hence, you don’t get those hot spots that nobody likes. This ensures that the quality of your grilled food remains consistent.

This grill pan isn’t like those traditional non-stick grill pans we found and some of the food might stick to it if oil isn’t used. But all that’s needed is just a single rub of oil over the surface of the pan and it becomes non-stick. Being made from cast iron, this grill pan has an amazing non-stick surface.

The ridges of this grill pan are high and it comes with a small moat that allows the juices to drain through it. I loved its drainage spouts from where I could pour out the juices and fats without any effort.

Although its price is higher than the rest of the grill pans on our list, but as I said earlier, it’s an investment for your money. Overall, I loved how this pan has plenty of features that other pans don’t have, such as color options and drainage spouts. And the grill marks were just too good.

Pros
  • 8 Colour options
  • High durability
  • Quick and even heating
  • Made from high-quality cast iron
  • Needs less oil for grilling
  • Doesn’t crack or chip
  • Dishwasher safe
Cons
  • Non-stick feature could’ve been better

Lodge Square: Best Budget Grill Pan

While purchasing this pan I thought it would be below average in terms of quality because of its price. however, I was surprised to see that it worked amazingly well, even on my induction stove top.

Overall, the heat conduction ability of this grill pan is really impressive and worth appreciating. On medium heat, it gets heated up within 5 minutes. Being a cast iron pan, it really is a good heat conductor. Moreover, its heat retention was also above average (and above my expectations). I suppose this is because of its material as cast iron generally has extremely high heat retention capacity.

I used this pan almost regularly for about 2 months and found out that it was overall non-stick. Food doesn’t stick to the pan but sometimes get stuck in its ridges. But I found that sprinkling some salt between its ridges prevents the food from sticking. Note that cast iron isn’t truly non-stick and requires a little seasoning to help with it.

The only thing I disliked about this pan was its round ridges. As the ridges of this grill pan were rounded, it didn’t provide those sharp char-grill marks that we all like. Also, the moat of this pan is quite shallow and doesn’t provide much way for drainage. Nonetheless, I absolutely loved this pan and I think it’s an excellent best grill pan selling at the best price.

Pros
  • Even heat distribution
  • High durability
  • Quick and even heat conduction
  • Affordable
  • Easy to maintain
Cons
  • Doesn’t provide sharp char-grill marks
  • Shallow moat
  • Food particles may get stuck between its ridges.

Cuisinart CI30-23CR: Best Square Grill Pan

Cuisinart is a well-known name in the world of cookware. This Cuisinart cast iron grill pan comes with a porcelain enamel exterior which give it’s a premium overall look. And its inner cast iron surface is just perfect for your grilling needs. Also, because of its amazing collaboration with cast iron and porcelain, this grill pan really shows true toughness in style.

This grill pan is highly versatile. You can use it on an induction cook-top, an oven, and also for broiling. It comes with a wide handle that provides a very secure grip and makes it easy to carry from one place to another. Also, this pan is dishwasher safe, and it saves time and energy on your part.

Being made from cast iron, this luxurious grill pan ensures that both durability and heat conduction are at its best. Moreover, its solid built makes it one of the few pans that can be used in harsh conditions without being damaged.

One unique feature of this grill pan that I truly appreciate is the small curving on its left side that looks like a tip. This tip can be really helpful when cooking something with gravy. The manufacturers very thoughtfully added it in its design.

Pros
  • 3 color choices
  • Great finish
  • Wide and comfortable handle
  • Ridge lines for perfect char-grill marks
  • Compatible with all cook tops
Cons
  • Fragile, can chip easily.
  • Can rust if chipped

Anolon Advanced: Best Non-stick Grill Pan

This Anolon non-stick grill pan is the one that offers you a great deal of flexibility. It is made from heavy-duty aluminium and is hard-anodized for greater durability. And its quick and even heat conduction and retention properties make it even better.

Most grill pans come with low sides, but this one has higher sides that protect it from splattering. These high sides also allow you to use the pan for gravy when grilling is done. So it can be used for roasting juicy roasts or chicken.

The non-stick surface of this pan is metal utensil-safe and offers easy clean-up. Its rubberized handle is designed with a secure, comfortable grip that doesn’t heat up during cooking.

The channel around its outer edges collects and holds the liquids in the pan. And the drainage spouts on its both sides make it easier to drain excess liquids and fats.

Lastly, the ridges of this pan make professional grill marks on your food and give it that grilled food appearance we all love. Overall, this grill pan is non-stick, hardy, durable, and dishwasher safe. This means that it has all the properties we grilled food lovers look for in a grill pan.

Pros
  • Quick and even heat conduction
  • Oven compatible
  • Non-stick surface
  • Non-heat, comfortable handle
  • PFOA free
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Professional grill marks
  • Lifetime Warranty
Cons
  • Doesn’t work well on induction stovetops.
  • Can wrap easily

All-Clad 3011: Best Grill Pan for Electric Stove

If you own an electric stove and want to cook like a professional, then this grill pan is the best for you. It comes hard-anodized aluminium exterior for extra protection and a stainless steel interior for superior performance and heat conduction.

What I love the most about this pan is its non-stick surface. It allows you to grill the tender and juicy chicken breasts that slide off the grill pan without any problem.

However, make sure you don’t turn up the heat too high as it can damage the non-stick coating. Just place it over your electric stove on medium heat and let the pan fully heat up. It will take around 7-8 minutes (It’s not the pan, electric stoves generally take a little longer to heat up).

One downside of this pan, that I wish wasn’t there, is its poor heat retention after being removed from the heat source. It retains the heat well while cooking, but cools off quickly once you turn off the stove.

Overall, this pan works amazingly well on electric stoves. We all know that these types of stove-tops don’t provide the greatest amount of heat, but this pan still performs well.

Pros
  • High durability
  • Compatible with oven and all cook-tops
  • Requires less oil
  • High rims
  • PFOA free
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Cool handle
  • Limited lifetime warranty
Cons
  • Uneven heat distribution
  • Ridged base may not sit well on some cook-tops.
  • Round ridges, doesn’t provide sharp grill marks

OXO Good Grips: Best Grill Pan for Glass Cook-top

I always recommend this grill pan to everyone who has a glass stove-top. It’s because of the several benefits this pan has to offer. It has a PFOA free non-stick surface and doesn’t scratch your beautiful glass cook tops at all. It has great heat conduction properties and rolled edges that allow for drip-free pouring of gravy.

As you’re aware, glass cook tops are prone to scratches. So they can easily get damaged if right cookware is not used. This OXO grill pan doesn’t scratch your glass cook-top as it sports a 3-layered non-stick coating which covers the whole pan.

I would recommend you to use it over medium heat as high heat may damage the non-stick coating of the pan. This grill pan usually takes around 8 minutes to heat up. It’s heating time may be a bit longer as compared to other pans but trust me, it cooks food equally well. The first time I used this pan, I was really impressed to see how well it cooked fish on medium heat.

Lastly, this OXO grill pan weighs only 3 pounds and is one of the lightest pans on the market today. Overall, this pan the best for glass cook-tops, mainly because of its 3-layered non-stick coating. So if you’re looking for an amazing grill pan that works well on your glass cook-top, then this is the one to go for!

Pros
  • 3-layered non-stick coating
  • High durability
  • Even heat distribution
  • Scratch resistant
  • Cool, contoured handles
  • Rolled edges
  • Oven compatible
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Curved and shallow ridges

Calphalon Contemporary: Best Indoor Grill Pan

This Calphalon grill pan is packed with unique ideas and design that makes it one of the best pans on the market today. Beginning with its design, this pan is made from heavy-gauge aluminium. Aluminium is a good material for heat distribution, however, it’s not the best one for grilling.

But this heavy-gauge aluminium has been hard-anodized by the manufacturers which helps enhance its rigidity. Moreover, the pan comes with a 3-layered non-stick coating which helps in grilling. And because of the high ridges of the pan, your food gets grilled to perfection with that authentic texture you love.

Due to the design and size of the grill pan, it can be used on various heating sources, ranging from gas stove-top to induction stove top. This pan provides you with a good space for your long vegetables or meat.

The heavy-gauge aluminium is lighter in weight than most of the commercialized metals and it great for heat spread. However, it’s not so good when it comes to durability. So to enhance its rigidity and endurance, the aluminium used in this pan has been hard-anodized. By doing so, manufacturers have countered this downside of aluminium and made it tougher than before.

Pros
  • 3-layered non-stick coating
  • Hard-anodized for superior performance
  • Well suited for indoor use
  • Deep ridges
  • Cool and comfortable handles
  • PFOA free
  • Compatible with all cook-tops
  • Lightweight
  • Lifetime warranty
Cons
  • Not dishwasher safe
  • Not scratch resistant

How to Buy a Grill Pan: Buyer’s Guide

What Is a Grill Pan?

A grill pan, sometimes called a griddle pan, is basically a frying pan with grill lines that are around 1-2 centimeters apart. These grill lines are usually 0.5 centimeters high and allow for the juicy in your food to drip down.

Grilling basically involves applying dry heat over the food surface. This gives your food a more seasoned and smoked taste as flavors are better absorbed in the dry-heating process. It is used for cooking food on a radiant heat. Grill pans add smoked flavor to your food and make it taste like it is cooked on an outdoor charcoal grill.

In the past this process was only doable on an outdoor grill: steel wires or webbed aluminium grill over a heating source (open fire or charcoal). A grill pan eliminates the need for these setups and provides the same result in an easy to use, compact item.

Material of Grill Pans

Like other cookware, there are advantages and disadvantages of different grill pan materials. Most of the common grill pans are made of either cast iron or aluminium, both of which have their own pros and cons.

Cast iron has great heat distribution and retention properties, and can be used on induction stove-tops. Cast iron pans are considered best for grilling due to their high endurance and durability. However, is not naturally non-stick and can be heavy.

Aluminium, on the other hand, usually comes with a non-stick or another coating and is light in weight. It heats quickly and is responsive to changes in heat. However, pans made entirely from aluminium cannot be used an induction stove-top. Also, as aluminium is not considered the best material for grilling due to its low endurance. So it is usually anodized to enhance its rigidity and durability.

Types of Stove-tops for Grill Pans

There are several types of grill pans available in the market but which is the right one for your cook-top? I’ve gathered all the important information you need to make the best buying decision ever.

There are three main types of stove-tops that most of us have in our kitchens:

  • Induction Stove tops: These stove-tops are becoming increasingly popular due to their quick heating feature. I highly recommend cast-iron grill pans for induction stove-tops. However, normal cast iron may scratch the surface of your stove-top. So to prevent this from happening, it’s better to go for an enameled induction grill pan. Enameled cast iron pans have a coating that prevents it from scratching the cook top surface.
  • Electric Stove tops: If you have an electric stove, then I would recommend you to stay away from cast-iron grill pans. It is because these pans are very heavy and solid. Also, as electric stoves usually heat less quickly, it will take the cast iron pans a long time to heat up.
  • Glass Stove tops: As these stove-tops are prone to scratches, it’s better to avoid grill pans made from materials like cast iron or glass which can scratch the glass top.

Cast iron pans are a big no for glass stove tops as they are very heavy. If you have a glass cook top, I’d recommend you to go for aluminium grill pans are they are comparatively lightweight. However, they can too scratch the glass surface.

Types of Food to Cook in a Grill Pan

While there are endless options for grill pan foods, I felt I should list down a few foods that are best cooked in grill pans. If you don’t have these foods regularly, it is a good reason to start cooking them more often. You’ll see that the finished look of these foods is absolutely beautiful and super easy to achieve.

Below are a few foods that can be cooked to perfection in a grill pan:

  • Lamb – it’s one of the dishes that are best cooked in a grill pan. Try grilling your favorite rack of lamb or making some spiced peach lamb chops.
  • Shrimp – They may be delicate but they can definitely the radiant grilling heat. For best results, I’d recommend you to use jumbo shrimp. Try preparing a chipotle-rubbed shrimp tacos.
  • Vegetables – grill some jalapenos and make cheese-stuffed jalapenos with some delicious Ranchero sauce. Or try some grilled asparagus, mushrooms and carrots. You can also grill thick sliced veggies such as zucchini and eggplant.
  • Sandwiches – Grill pans make the best sandwiches. Try making panini margherita, grilled tofu, tangy turkey burgers, avocado and bacon sandwiches in your grill pan. They taste like heaven when prepared in a grill pan.

Conclusion

All of us love having some recreational time our families and friends. And there’s nothing better than having a BBQ party at the backyard to spend some great time with our favorite food and people. And because of the same reason I have picked and listed down some of the best grill pans on the market for you. Hopefully now you have better understood what you want and know a bit more about grill pans than you knew before.

I hope that my article has helped you in choosing the perfect grill pan for your situation. I can’t wait to see you start grilling and connecting with your loved ones. If you still have any queries and want any further help, feel free to ask. Happy grilling!

  2. Le-creuset cast iron is great! It has great heat retention and is very heavy-duty and sturdy. Using it since a month and it has become my go-to skillet. My only advice would be: don’t put it under cold water when the pan is hot. and clean it properly after each use.
